Recycle unwanted textiles
Yorkshire Cancer Research has teamed up with Bag2TheFuture, the Northallerton based textile recycling company, to raise funds for the vital world-class research in Yorkshire.
The launch of this new initiative coincides with National Recycle Week during the week of 22nd - 28th June 2009 which is an excellent way to kick-start the campaign which will not only help raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research but also help the environment. Every tonne of unwanted textiles collected will make £400 for the charity.
Bag2The Future will provide a free and easy collection service of unwanted textiles with every 20 bags filled. Anyone wishing to dispose of at least 20 bags of unwanted textiles should call the Bag2TheFuture hotline 01609 780222. Clothes collections can be organised by individuals, companies, schools, community groups, anyone who would like to help Yorkshire Cancer Research raise valuable funds.
Recent research by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, has shown that with the rise of value retailers offering disposable fashion, textiles have become the fastest growing waste product in the UK. About 74% of the two million tonnes of clothing we buy every year will end up in landfills. Recycling and reusing unwanted clothing will reduce the environmental impact on the world.
Sally Crerar, Head of Community Fundraising commented: "Twenty bags of unwanted clothes may seem a lot but if you and a few friends have a spring clean it would quickly add up. We want to encourage people to come together either at work or with friends and family, to dispose of unwanted items in a way that will help the environment and also help raise funds for research into the causes and cures of cancer".
Yorkshire Cancer Research is an independent charity that funds world class research, principally in Yorkshire, into the causes and cures of cancer. Awards are granted to universities and associated teaching hospitals across Yorkshire in order to publish and share the results with the world's scientific community for the benefit of mankind.
Donating unwanted items couldn't be easier. To order 20 bags or arrange for a free collection at your convenience call 01609 780222.
