Yorkshire Cancer Research Factfile

  • Last year Yorkshire Cancer Research funded research to the tune of almost £4million in centres of excellence throughout the region including Hull, Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield and York University as well as associated teaching hospitals
  • Yorkshire Cancer Research has committed a further £11million pounds over the next five years to continue funding research teams across Yorkshire in their goal to find the causes and cures for cancer
  • There are more than 200 different types of cancer and 25,000 people a year are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire alone
  • Yorkshire Cancer Research’s 41 volunteer committees, along with an army of individual volunteers raised almost £1.5 million through donations, as well as staging and participating in numerous events ranging from cycling, aerobics and the toughest foot race in the world (Marathon des Sables).
  • Last year over £5.5 million was raised through legacy funding - people remembering Yorkshire Cancer Research in their wills in order to help continue the fight against cancer in all its forms.
  • Breakthroughs do not happen every day but daily we can add to our knowledge about cancer
