Yorkshire Cancer Research’s contribution to POSTnote: ‘Accessing large-scale health data for research – opportunities, barriers and risks’ content
The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) is a UK Parliament service that provides parliamentarians with impartial, expert analysis on complex scientific and social science issues. One of POST’s key outputs is POSTnotes. These are short, accessible briefings that summarise the latest evidence to inform parliamentary debate and decision‑making.
Yorkshire Cancer Research recently responded to POST’s call for evidence on the opportunities, barriers and risks associated with accessing large-scale health data for research. The charity’s submission draws on extensive experience of funding and delivering research and services across Yorkshire, as well as the expertise of researchers from the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial. The response highlights key considerations for the future development of large-scale health data platforms, including practical barriers to access and opportunities to maximise benefit.
