Response to NICE perioperative care in adults: quality standards consultation

NICE’s quality standards set out the most important areas where health and care services can improve. For this consultation, NICE requested up to five areas of improvement in perioperative care for adults. Perioperative care refers to care provided before, during and after surgery.

In our response, we explain how perioperative care should be improved by offering prehabilitation from surgery at the point of diagnosis where possible. Additionally, we call for every person who smokes to be automatically enrolled into smoking cessation services whilst awaiting surgery.
