Yorkshire Cancer Research Response to the Home Office Call for Evidence on Alcohol Licensing Reform content
In November 2025, Yorkshire Cancer Research submitted a response to the Home Office’s call for evidence on reforming the alcohol licensing system. The charity emphasised that public health must be a central consideration in any changes to alcohol licensing policy.
The charity is concerned that the proposed reforms to the alcohol licencing system place disproportionate emphasis on economic objectives, potentially undermining efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm. In the relevant questions of this call for evidence Yorkshire Cancer Research took the opportunity to draw attention to the link between alcohol and cancer and the societal and economic consequences of increasing the availability of alcohol.
