2027 Special Fellowship Funding Round – ‘Research-active region: investing in research talent in Yorkshire content

Through previous fellowship schemes, Yorkshire Cancer Research has demonstrated how a targeted fellowship scheme can attract and develop outstanding academic talent who deliver pioneering research across cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Building on this success, our 2027 Special Fellowship Funding Round invites applications for cohorts of research fellows to help further our strategic aim for Yorkshire to be a research-active region.
Key information
Amount available: £9 million
Duration: up to 5 years (note individual fellowships should not exceed 5 years, but the overall programme duration may be longer to allow for phased recruitment of fellows)
Funding Round opens: 8 October 2026
Deadline for applications: 12 noon, 17 December 2026
Research Advisory Panel meeting: 10 March 2027 – shortlisted applicants will be invited to present at the meeting
Funding decisions: March/April 2027
