Bryan's experience
"No matter how long you have been smoking for, or if you've tried quitting before and it hasn't worked, with the help of a specialist service you’re never too old to stop. Nicotine patches weren’t for me, and I know vaping products don’t suit everyone, and that’s ok. With the right support you can swap to the right stop smoking aid for you."
Sean's experience
"Quitting smoking has been transformative to my health. My morning coughs have stopped, and I no longer get wheezy when I walk uphill. If anyone is thinking about quitting, I strongly recommend you go for it. It’s not easy at first, but people around me have been so supportive and it’s an achievement I’m massively proud of."
Liz's experience
"I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it, but the advisor was so helpful and so calming. The way she explained things made sense to me. It wasn’t easy but it was certainly easier than I thought it would be. I feel so positive about it. I do a lot of walking since retiring and I’m now able to walk a lot further. Smoking was also getting far too expensive, so I now have more money to spend on other things."
Quote from Rob Oakley, Northallerton
The weekly phone calls from my advisor Tori and the support from the wider team really kept me going. Their encouragement made me feel like I was not doing it alone – I had other people to uplift me and help me achieve my goal.
Just do it, call that number. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

Can you help me to stop vaping?
Our Stop Smoking Service is designed specifically to help people quit tobacco smoking, which is known to cause serious long term health harms. While vaping is not risk free, current evidence shows it is significantly less harmful than smoking and can be an effective tool for people who are trying to quit tobacco. Because of this, our service focuses on supporting individuals to stop smoking rather than to stop vaping.
How will I feel when I quit smoking?
Even if you’ve smoked for a very long time, you will still notice changes to your body and health when you stop.
This is what happens when you quit for good:
After 1 day
Your oxygen levels return to normal and carbon monoxide levels in your blood reduce by more than half.
After 1 week
Your sense of taste and smell starts to improve and your breathing will become easier.
After 1 year
Your lung function will have increased and risk of heart attack will have halved compared to a smoker's.
