Dear [MP’s name],

As one of your constituents, I am writing to ask you to use your influence to make sure Yorkshire isn't ignored in the Government’s new National Cancer Plan.

I have sent a white rose to London because I care deeply about improving cancer outcomes in our community. This is because [explain why you are supporting this campaign, including your personal experience with cancer].

Every 17 minutes, someone in Yorkshire is told they have cancer, and tragically, people are more likely to have their lives cut short by cancer in this region than almost anywhere else in England.

The White Rose Cancer Report, published by Yorkshire Cancer Research, outlines four recommendations that must be included:

  1. Prevent more cancers and tackle smoking by automatically offering more people support to stop smoking through the NHS.
  2. Diagnose cancer sooner by giving people access to innovative cancer screening programmes that are properly funded.
  3. Improve cancer survival by making research-backed exercise treatment available to everyone after being diagnosed.
  4. Give Yorkshire its fair share of cancer research funding to help save more lives.

These recommendations are achievable and will saves. You can read them in full in The White Rose Cancer Report.

As your constituent, I am asking you to please:

  • Raise these issues in Parliament through questions or debates
  • Write to the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting – asking the Government to include The White Rose Cancer Report recommendations in the National Cancer Plan
  • Raise awareness of the urgency of acting now in the local press or on social media

By speaking up now, you can help shape the future for people with cancer in Yorkshire, and beyond.

I would be grateful if you could let me know of any progress you’re able to make.

Yours sincerely,

[Your Name]
