Yorkshire Cancer Research responds to NICE consultation on perioperative care

NICE recently published its draft quality standards for perioperative care in adults. Quality standards set out key priorities for improvement in an area of care. Perioperative care includes the periods before, during and after a person has surgery.

In this response, Yorkshire Cancer Research argues that NICE should prioritise expanding access to evidence based exercise prehabilitation and rehabilitation for people with cancer. The Charity also calls for all adults who smoke and are having surgery to be automatically enrolled into smoking cessation services. NICE should also recognise the variation in perioperative care provision identified by the Yorkshire Cancer Research Bowel Cancer Improvement Programme.
