Yorkshire Cancer Research Responds to Tobacco and Vapes Bill Call for Evidence content
As the Tobacco and Vapes Bill progresses through Parliament, the Government launched a call for evidence, inviting experts to provide insights on technical aspects of the legislation. Once enacted, the Bill will introduce a phased increase in the age of sale for cigarettes, rising by one year every year, aiming to create a smoke-free generation. It will also include measures to reduce the appeal of vaping products to young people and curb innovation in other tobacco products, such as cigars, to limit their attractiveness.
Yorkshire Cancer Research responded to this call for evidence by highlighting the risks associated with certain vape flavours and ingredients, the importance of maintaining vaping as an effective smoking cessation tool while reducing youth appeal and the need for swift regulatory action when harmful substances are identified. The response also addresses loopholes in flavour bans for tobacco products and accessories, the role of packaging and product design in influencing behaviour and the benefits of licensing schemes to restrict sales to reputable retailers.
