Yorkshire Cancer Research response to consultation on banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to children content
In the King’s Speech 2024 the government committed to banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to children under the age of 16 years in England. In September 2025 the Department of Health and Social Care set out their proposals for this and asked organisations and individuals to share their feedback.
In the charity’s response to this consultation Yorkshire Cancer Research highlighted the link between excess body weight and cancer and the role that banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to children could play in helping people develop healthy behaviours in childhood that continue as an adult.
