Delivering the Neighbourhood Health Service

Yorkshire Cancer Research has submitted evidence to the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s inquiry on delivering the Neighbourhood Health Service. In this response, the Charity urges the Government to prioritise funding in communities with the lowest healthy life expectancy and greatest pressure on existing services, ensuring neighbourhood centres are developed where they are needed most. Yorkshire Cancer Research also highlights the importance of maximising existing NHS and community estate, such as Community Diagnostic Centres and trusted community spaces, to bring prevention, diagnostics and rehabilitation closer to home.

Drawing on evidence from programmes including Active Together and the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial, the Charity sets out how neighbourhood-based, colocated services can reduce pressure on hospitals, improve earlier diagnosis and narrow health inequalities.
