Craig Jordan was a renowned pharmacologist who developed one of the world’s most successful cancer drugs, Tamoxifen. He first arrived at the Leeds cancer research centre in 1966 and went on to work on Tamoxifen, proving it could treat hormone-sensitive breast cancers and prevent breast cancer. Despite initial scepticism, Tamoxifen was approved for use in the UK in 1972 and became the gold-standard treatment for most breast cancers for the next 20 years. It is still prescribed daily around the world. Dr Jordan's research led to improved survival rates, reduced breast cancer recurrence, and lowered the risk of developing breast cancer in high-risk individuals. He passed away in 2024, leaving a lasting legacy in cancer treatment.
